Description
The main mass of Fall River Glacier occupied the valley of Fall River and eroded this valley much more extensively than the eastern lobe of this glacier eroded the valley of Roaring River. Hence Roaring River occupies what is called a "hanging valley"—that is its floor lies at a higher level than that of the valley into which it empties. In its descent of 500 feet from this hanging valley Roaring River forms a succession of picturesque rapids and waterfalls, known collectively as Horseshoe Falls
